Cocktail hours first appeared in ancient Greek society. Neighbors would stop by with wine to visit and feast on caviar, shrimp, oysters, nuts and more, according to ‘History of Alcohol, Part 1.’ At a wedding, the cocktail hour is a means to socialize, but it also commemorates the rite of passage of a man and woman to husband and wife. The following are a couple of reasons for the cocktail hour at a wedding.

Relaxation. The bride isn’t the only one that may feel high levels of stress and excitement on her wedding day. From parents who are organizing the event to grandparents and the bridal party whose job it is to ensure everything runs smoothly, once the vows are said, everyone can relax a little. Cocktail hours signifies the fun is about to begin.

Photography. The bridal party generally disappears during the cocktail hour. They are whisked away to commemorate the big day with group photos that often include family as well as close friends and relatives. However, some couples choose to take a few moments after the ceremony to simply enjoy each other’s company.

Sipping on a glass of champagne while riding around in a horse-drawn carriage is one way to let the nerves relax after the ‘I do’s’ are exchanged. It’s a time where the couple can steal a moment for themselves, or a time to share some hugs and congratulations.

Relationships. The bride and groom may have formed a lasting connection on their wedding day, but other relationships may also form during the cocktail hour. At dinner, people are seated in select groups.

Cocktail hour, on the other hand is the one chance where it’s quiet enough for people to talk and allows both families and friends to intermingle and make some new connections. Often times relationships that form at weddings start at the cocktail hour.

Prelude. The cocktail hours is a prelude to the second main event of the day – dinner and dancing. Often times the ceremony is held at one location, such as a church or outdoor venue and then the reception is held at second venue. In this case, the cocktail hour sets the tone for the rest of the wedding. Guests will be sampling liquors and will get a feel for the quality of food that will be served at the wedding dinner.

Cocktail hours signal the party is starting. Food and drink always put people in a good mood. It loosens them up and lets them reflect on the wedding ceremony. Cocktail hours bring together people that may not have seen each other in years. It allows old friendships to bloom again, or new relationships to seed. The bride and groom should be sure to have appetizers and cocktails served to the wedding party as photographs are taken, so they too can enjoy in their celebration.

Arizona brides have a lot to be thankful for. From year-round temperate weather, to fabulous wedding locations, to a variety of food and cultures, Arizona is an ideal wedding location. The following are the top five reasons Arizona Brides are the happiest brides in the US:

1.    Brides in Arizona can have a fabulous wedding for half the price of a wedding in Los Angeles or New York. The pricing is far more competitive than bigger cities, however the venues are of a class to rival any cosmopolitan city. There’s a reason brides from coast to coast flock to Arizona for their weddings.

2.    Incredible venues. Arizona’s mountains, desert and canyons make a dramatic backdrop for any wedding. From Flagstaff’s snow-covered peaks to the Grand Canyon’s colored canyons to Sedona’s red rocks, the scenery around them always enhances outdoor weddings. Within Arizona, there are places such as the desert botanical gardens that offer a unique landscape for a wedding. Architecture also plays a part in a wedding backdrop. From Tuscan Villas to hotels, there’s not shortage of venues for brides.

3.    Due to the size of the cities, vendors are willing to compete for your business. This means you can often negotiate lower costs for the services you need. Arizona boasts companies that have been established for many years as well as upstart businesses.

4.    There is no better place for year-round outdoor weddings. Arizona’s climate makes it possible to have weddings outdoors year-round. Although weddings in the summer months should either take place at night or at a venue with misters, the other 10 months of the year make this a great place for out of town visitors to escape the harsh winter months.

5.    It’s a great place to enjoy a golf vacation. What makes Arizona unique as a wedding location is out-of-towners get to turn the wedding into a vacation. They can spend a week golfing, or exploring in the various natural environments. Arizona brides invite their guests to more than a wedding; they are inviting them to a place of relaxation and rejuvenation.

Arizona brides have many reasons to be thankful. Los Angeles is only a quick plane ride away. If the bride wants to work with designer dressmakers, it won’t take more than a weekend. Las Vegas is a great location for a bachelorette or bachelor party. Have the bridal party come out early to enjoy some of the flavor of Arizona.

There’s no question Arizona brides are among some of the happiest brides in the country. From impeccable service, stunning venues to a multitude of caterers and vendors to choose from, Arizona brides have it all for half the cost of a cosmopolitan wedding.
