National Wedding… Internation Foods

It was not long ago that Indian food was only served in Indian weddings, Chinese food served in Chinese weddings and English food served at English weddings. If we were invited to a wedding, we only had to think of the ethnic origin of the bride and groom to know what sort of food was going to be served. In many parts of the world this is still the case, and in many weddings in England this is still the case. But not all. Everyone would agree that it’s important to serve food that the guests will enjoy, and also that it is nice when you can find caterers that are cost effective. That is the case the world over.

In England, however, something very special is happening. England is a very multi-cultural society. There are multi-faiths, multi-colours and multi-millionaires all living very close to each other. Somebody may come to visit England and decide to spend the rest of his or her life in this country because it is so diverse. And even if that person cannot get official status in the country, he or she might try to hide his or her identity or faith, just to stay in the country? Why? Because England, and London in particular, is a dream. London is a haven on earth. London is a little world and a unique place. In India you will find Indians, in China you will find Chinese people, but in England you will find all the world. You will find all the colours of the rainbow on your own street.

When we have events such as weddings, we want to invite those who are living nearby. You might want to invite your boss from work, who might be English, or your manager, who might be Chinese, or your neighbors, who might be African Caribbean, or your doctor, who might be Australian, or your solicitor, who might be Punjabi, or your business partner, who might Morrocan. My sons best friends are Pakistani, my daughters friends are from Turkey. The list can go on and on. Basically, you can have a guest list at your wedding that is truly multi-cultural. When you invite these people, do not expect them to be satisfied with just spicy chicken curry or spicy chicken tikka. They will be polite enough to eat these foods, but they might not be fully satisfied.

The solution is to have an international menu choice. There are a number of wedding caterers who are able to provide dishes from all over the globe. You can have Chinese noodles, Italian pasta and any dish you can think of, all served in a buffet style so that people can choose exactly what they want. They may not eat the spicy food, but they will enjoy looking at it and witnessing what other people are enjoying. So everyone is a winner. Choose a caterer who provides multiple food choices in the multicultural society that we all enjoy.

How Do They Choose a Wedding Day in India?

How do they choose a wedding day in India?

Wedding day: a strange title for some, unusual for a few, but common for Asian families. How do you choose your wedding day? Is it difficult to know how to begin choosing? Well, the simple answer is – choose a day when that you think will be a good day. It could be a bank holiday, weekend or evening. If we are considering weather, we choose summertime, or at least the time of year when the weather is supposed to be best. I have not seen many weddings in the spring, which is rainy season in India, because the majority of events take place in the back garden or in the street. In England we can have our wedding in summer, but the next thing you know, the rain could be pouring down. But it doesn’t matter since the venue is indoors.

We Indians are strong believers that when we choose our wedding day, we have to take many things into consideration. We need to think of timing, because in the Hindu religion, the time of the year and month has great significance, and in the Muslim faith, certain times will have to be avoided because of Ramadan.

In India, particularly in small villages, the date for a wedding is chosen by gathering a group of people from both sides of couple. They will avoid certain dates if there are exams for the children taking place, festivals, bad weather, guests coming from abroad, cricket match finals, new Bollywood film releases, days when the electricity will be cut (in small villages the power is cut for one whole day each week). Other factors are the caterers availability, and also the amount of time needed for the journey home of the groom. And the most important factor of all is what is suitable for the bride. It is better for her if the wedding does not clash with her monthly rest.

If you are planning your next wedding event, and you are inviting large volumes of people of the Muslim faith, then when you choose the day you should take the following into consideration: Ramadan, Friday morning, Edd day, Hajj time. It is always best to check on the internet whether there are any festivals coming up for any Asian faith, any national events, football matches, IPL or test cricket matches. I’m sure you will find one almost everyday, because India is a country that likes festivals and likes to celebrate. But I’m sure that after careful consideration, you will choose the best day you can. Good Luck.
