Alternative Wedding Favours

If someone you know is getting married and they haven’t specified a wedding list, there’s no need to panic about choosing the right gift. There are plenty of suitable wedding gift ideas for the happy couple, from household appliances to personalised gifts.

Buying something useful for the couple’s home can be a considerate idea – from a replacement microwave to something out of the ordinary, like a chocolate fondue fountain, which is bound to be a hit at parties. You’ll need to be sure that the appliance you’re buying will actually be considered useful, of course, and won’t clash with what other guests are buying – otherwise you could just add to their clutter and house moving chores in the future.

Personalised gifts can also be a tricky area, as having names embroidered onto pillows or engraved into wine glass sets runs the risk of misinterpreting the couple’s style or taste – making it a wiser idea, in general, to opt for gifts that can demonstrate your bond in a more private way.

If you know the bride and groom well, it should be that little bit easier to buy them smaller gifts for the occasion – from gadgets such as MP3 players, that you know they’ve long desired, to perfumes in their favoured fragrance. You can even help them plan a great night out in the future with two tickets to an upcoming concert or dinner at a fancy restaurant, to help them get out of the house as newlyweds. However, even if you aren’t as close to the couple as you’d like to be, there are still many options for gifts that are sure to be universally popular.

Gift certificates are an easy bet, but these do come with the stigma of revealing that you couldn’t think of a suitable gift – not to mention that the store you’ve chosen may not be to their taste. Confectionary such as chocolate gifts can be more appealing, as even if the bride is forsaking the sweet stuff for the time-being, chocolate will be a sure-fire hit at the parties and other events the couple will likely be holding over the next few months.

Buying a suitable wedding gift is the perfect way to show your love and support for friends and family members on their big day. By choosing a gift that’s both functional and desirable, you can help cement your bond to the couple, as well as make a lasting impression.
